The work presented here is an exploration of the quiet intimacy that can be found in nature and my desire to move beyond observation and know myself to be a true part of it. I liken it to a pilgrimage and the final image serves as a talisman to deliver my mind and spirit back to that peace when my body cannot. Of course, I am a part of nature, being an animal on this earth, but much of daily life is carried out within fabricated environments built of manufactured materials that are neither living nor wild. In observing her closely in her small workings, subtle yet surprising transitions, and less grand displays, such as the humble ground, I seek to replenish myself, my spirit, in the natural world.
This is Holy Ground. 2009
